Active Minds speaker helps NMSU students reframe mental health

 

"Using a peer-to-peer approach, Active Minds changes the conversation about mental health among adolescents and young adults, reduces stigma associated with mental health conditions, and establishes a culture of caring on college and university campuses.

Our programs and resources are built for students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the broad campus community to ensure long-term change at the individual, campus community, and policy levels. Active Minds prioritizes the student voice to ensure a student-driven and student-focused approach in mental health promotion. We inspire mental health advocates to have conversations that have the potential to save lives." Active Minds

Why did you join Active Minds? 
I joined active minds because I wanted to make a difference in my community. I am very passionate about mental health, and want to see a change in how we talk about it at the university level. Mental Health matters, and our professors and admin should take it seriously.

I have an orange cat named Ginger! He's exaclty like they say (a spicy disaster).

Why did you join the Active Minds? 
I joined Active Minds because I love getting to be involved in advocacy, especially when it comes to mental health and the need for urging that stronger campus and community resources be established. As someone who has undergone many mental health crises and was able to receive the support needed to overcome, I want to ensure I am doing my part to aid students going through similar situations as I once did.
Something fun about yourself or want others to know: 
I have two cats. Miss P and Boomer! Miss P had a surgery last year to remove an eye, so we often call her Pirate P instead.

Why did you join the Active Minds? 
I Joined Active Minds because I wanted to be more involved with mental health advocacy. Coming from a very small town I witness the lack of advocacy there was and the negative light people shed to mental health. With that I wanted to make a difference in my community and others so that people would not be afraid to reach out for help. I want to make sure that resources are availbe and that talking about mental health is not bad or a weakness. 
Something fun about yourself or want others to know: 
I have a hamster her name is Hamilia (Hammy) she is the cutest little thing ever. She has escaped 3 times out of her cage and I was able to find her because she was climbing the mountain of pillows.
